Recognizing that value, we are actively working on\nthe next phase of our community\u2019s technological infrastructure \u2013 building out a\n5G network powered by Verizon.&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">5G technology, the\nfifth generation of wireless, provides unparalleled network reliability and\nincredibly fast downloads giving people access to more information faster than\never before. While most commercially available devices do not have the capacity\nto access 5G, we can expect this technology to arrive soon \u2013 and when it does,\nLake Nona will be among the first communities in the nation with a 5G network in\nplace. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lake Nona laid the\nground work for 5G with our fiber infrastructure that provides super high-speed\nwired connectivity directly to homes and businesses. Thanks to that fiber\ninfrastructure, a complementary 5G network can be built to deliver those same\nhigh speeds with a wireless connection available anywhere in Lake Nona. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In early 2020, we announced <a href=\"\/release\/lake-nona-and-verizon-bolster-community-wide-innovation-ecosystem-in-florida\/\">an agreement with Verizon<\/a> that would bring new technologies including 5G to Lake Nona. In coordination with the City of Orlando, Verizon has already installed numerous 5G wireless communication facilities, known as small cells, throughout Lake Nona across Medical City and the <a href=\"\/town-center\/\">Town Center<\/a>. More recently, the small cells have entered into our residential neighborhoods beginning in <a href=\"\/neighborhoods\/laureate-park\/\">Laureate Park<\/a>. You may notice the small cells on existing or new utility poles in the public right-of-way throughout the community. \u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Beyond personal use, a robust 5G network will make Lake Nona a launching point for emerging new technology thanks in part to a new accelerator program that\u2019s bringing entrepreneurs to our community. Start-ups in the <a href=\"\/release\/lake-nona-partners-with-lead-sports-to-create-first-of-its-kind-accelerator\/\">leAD Lake Nona Sports &amp; Health Tech Accelerator<\/a> can leverage 5G technology and Lake Nona\u2019s existing wellbeing community creating a perfect ecosystem for the next great breakthrough that will transform how we live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The\nsuper-fast speeds and increased bandwidth of 5G can also have a transformational\nimpact on industries prevalent in Lake Nona including health care and\ntelehealth, autonomous mobility, wellbeing, education, retail, and sports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cConnectivity,\nboth physical and digital is the main engine that powers Lake Nona\u2019s innovation\necosystem,\u201d said Juan Santos, senior vice president of innovation at Tavistock\nDevelopment Company, Lake Nona\u2019s developer. \u201cOur relationship with Verizon adds\nboth expertise and technology enabling a new era of innovative 5G-powered\nsolutions.
